8.5 Sharp/pointed waste

This category includes sharp / pointed waste such as disposable needles, scalpels, and razor blades that have been contaminated with chemicals labeled with either flammable, corrosive, or toxic pictograms.

Always place the waste in a packaging that cannot be penetrated, such as a plastic or glass container. Treat this waste as chemical waste.

If the waste is both infectious and sharp/pointed, follow the instructions in section 8.4 Infectious and sharp/pointed waste.

Place the plastic or glass container containing the waste into a brown cardboard box. Label the box as “Chemical waste”. You can pick-up the brown cardboard box at the janitor’s office.

Once the box is full, seal the plastic bag inside the box using a cable tie or tape. Close and seal the brown cardboard box with tape.

The "Chemical waste" will be collected by SYSAV at your department or division, follow the instructions in section 8.2 Chemical waste.
